성 프란치스코 전기의 성적 유혹에 관한 문헌 분석
정결의 덕은 교회 안에서 중요한 덕목 중 하나이기에, 적지 않은 그리스도인 들이 하늘나라를 위해 기꺼이 정결을 지켜왔을 뿐 아니라, 오늘날에도 역시 많 은 이들이 이 덕을 소중하게 지켜가고 있다. 하지만 오늘날 교회 안에서 발생한 여러 성적 일탈 행위는, 이러한 정결의 덕을 크게 위협하고 있으며, 그로 인해 발생한 고통은 당사자는 물론이거니와, 교회 안에서도 큰 상처로 남아 있다. 이 러한 시대적 상황 속에서 우리 보다 앞서 유혹을 극복하고 정결을 지켜나간 성 인들의 이야기를 돌아보는 것은 큰 의미가 있다. 본고에서는 정결의 덕을 지킨 여러 성인들 중에서, 특별히 성 프란치스코를 선택하였고, 성인의 삶을 우리에게 전해주는 공식 전기, 곧 성 보나벤뚜라의 『대전기(Legenda major)』를 사용하였다. 『대전기』에 나타난 성적 유혹 이야기 를 문헌 분석하고, 보다 깊은 이해를 위해 이전 성인들이 겪었던 성적 유혹 이 야기, 특별히 성 아타나시오가 작성한 『안토니오의 생애(Vita Antonii)』와 성 대 그레고리오 교황이 작성한 『베네딕도 전기(Vita Benedicti)』를 비교하여, 『대전기』의 성적 유혹 이야기가 가진 특징을 살펴보았다. 『대전기』에 따르면, 어느 한 겨울 밤 이탈리아 사르테아노 산 속에서 기도에 전념하던 프란치스코에게 정결을 위협하는 유혹이 일어났다. 프란치스코가 수도 생활을 시작하고 형제들과 함께 공동체를 이루어 생활하던 시기에 일어난 이 사건은, 그를 선한 열정에서부터 벗어나게 하려는 것이었다. 이 이야기는 유혹 과 해결이라는 구조 안에서 『안토니오의 생애』나 『베네딕도 전기』와 여러 유사 점을 가진다. 여기에 『대전기』가 가진 독특한 특징들이 더해져, 이야기는 더욱 풍성해진다. 이로서 두 성인에 버금가는 성덕을 이룬 프란치스코의 위대한 승리 가 돋보이며, 일상 속에서 꾸준히 덕을 향해 걸어갔던 성인이 이루어낸 위대한 성과가 드러난다. 프란치스코가 보여준 하느님에 대한 신뢰와 실패 속에서도 굴하지 않고 정결의 덕을 지키기 위해 꾸준히 노력하는 모습은, 이러한 유혹이 결코 넘을 수 없 는 것이 아니라 하느님 은총 속에서 지켜나갈 수 있는 것임을 우리에게 보여준 다. 우리가 유혹을 이기기를 원한다면, 여러 가지 방법으로 다가오는 유혹을 거 슬러 하느님에 대한 굳은 신앙 속에서 다양한 방식으로 투쟁해 나아가야 하고, 그 때에 비로소 그분의 은총을 통해 우리도 프란치스코가 도달한 성덕의 길에 함께 참여할 수 있게 될 것이다.
Textual analysis of sexual seduction in Legenda Major
The virtue of Chastity is one of the important virtue of the Church. That’s why so many Christians has willingly kept this virtue, until nowadays. But due to many sexual deviation occurred within the Church seriously threatens the virtue of Chastity. Pains occurred by this deviation remains not only to the victims, but also to the Church. In this circumstances, looking back to the story of Saints who lived before us, overcoming seductions, keeping the Chastity has big meaning to us. This thesis, among many Saints who kept the Virtue of Chastity, specially selected official Saint Francis’s life history, ‘Legenda major’ written by St. Bonaventure. This thesis tried to analyze sexual seduction story shown on ‘Legenda major’ and compared stories of ‘Vita Antonii’ by St. Anathasio and ‘Vita Benedicti’ by St. Gregory the Major, to find out special points that ‘Legenda major’ has. According to the ‘Legenda major’, one cold winter night, in region Sarteano, Italy, Francis was praying, a seduction threatening Chastity has occurred. It was when Francis already started to live a Religious life, and to live a community life with Brothers. The seduction was to get him off from the Good Passion. This story has many similarity with ‘Vita Antonii’ and ‘Vita Benedicti’ in a structure of seduction and solution. The story is enriched by adding special characters that ‘Legenda major’ has. The great triumph and achievement of St. Francis stands out through the story, who became as holy as other two saints, and that St. Francis made in his daily life. St. Francis has approved himself, while trusting the Lord and not submitting himself during the failures, that the seductions are conquerable and the Virtue of Chastity can be kept safe with the grace of God. If we want to overcome the seductions, we need to fight in various ways with trust in God. With this struggle, the Lord with his grace, will let us to participate the road of Virtue that St. Francis has reached.
